Golf Croquet Seminar

Croquet players came from Nowra, Wollongong and the Southern Highlands Clubs to join members of Jamberoo Croquet Club for a Golf Croquet Seminar, with special guest, Christine Pont, National Director of Golf Croquet. It was a perfect autumn morning and we began with scones, jam and cream with tea and coffee, under the figtree. Christine then entertained the group with an informative and amusing account of her croquet experiences, both here and overseas. Her knowledge of the rules of Golf Croquet and the reasoning behind some of these rules, were of particular interest. Christine kept our attention with tales of World Championship Croquet in Ireland, Hawkes Bay and Egypt, including the skills of the players, the Club facilities and the spectator interest. She also gave us an insight into her recent visit to Cairnlea in Victoria for the Australian Women’s Golf Croquet Championships.

A barbecue lunch of sausages and salad, followed by pavlova (and more cream) provided us with enough energy to play a couple of games of croquet, while Christine and Max offered advice on skills and tactics needed to improve our game.

In all, a most enjoyable day and we thank Christine and Max for taking the time to visit us in Jamberoo.

EVERY LITTLE BIT HELPS

Port Macquarie Croquet Club believes in giving to the community occasionally. Although a small club, in the scale of things, its members are big hearted.

For the second year of The Carnival of the Pines, the club again decided to donate its fund raising total to Rotary Lodge, the relative’s accommodation at the Base Hospital. The club discussed with Rotary Lodge’s chairman, David Simons, what it could give in terms of a useful item, as an alternative to money. David announced, ”some patio furniture”. There’s a small area outside the complexes common room. Although the sum raised was modest, it did contribute towards the purchase of two sets of furniture.

Following the disastrous bush fires in Victoria, the Club again decided to make a donation to the Red Cross appeal.

Although individual members made their own personnel donations, a fund raising day at the club collected a modest $500-00 for the bush fire appeal.

This week, the Club proudly met with Linda Parker of the Red Cross to hand over its cheque towards the Bushfire fund, and then two days later, meet up with Rotary Lodge to formally hand over the tables.

Both modest little gestures, but every little bit helps.

All little groups can do their bit to help others.
