Ricochet comes to Jamberoo

On Thursday 17 March, Margaret Rose Thompson came to Jamberoo to introduce us to the game of Ricochet, which is growing in popularity within the NSW croquet community. Players from Wollongong, Bundanoon and Southern Highlands joined Jamberoo members ‘to make up a class of 29 students. After Margaret’s detailed explanation of the game, we were treated to a ricochet demonstration by two experienced players from Nowra (Margaret Sawyers and Phil Pickard) before a brief morning tea break.

Players were then divided into 3 groups for the chance to try their hand at ricochet under the supervision of our "coaches".

The Jamberoo Executive Catering Service (ie our club members) served a delicious BBQ lunch, after which there was further opportunity to experience the intricacies of ricochet.

Many thanks to Margaret Rose and Tommy for coming, first to Nowra and then to Jamberoo, to share with us, her expertise and enthusiasm for ricochet. Thank you, also, to Margaret and Phil for travelling from Nowra to share your knowledge with us.

Ricochet Workshop held at Nowra

On Wednesday, 16th March, 2016, a Ricochet work shop was held for members wishing to improve their skills in ricochet. The work shop was led by Margaret Rose Thompson of Nelson Bay and who is a qualified Referee/Examiner in ricochet for N.S.W. Seventeen players took part, with visitors from Port Hacking , Milton Ulladulla and local members. The afternoon commenced with theory and question time, and then was followed by 'hands on experiences' There is no doubt, the tips learnt will go a long way, when participating in Nowra's inaugural Ricochet Carnival to be held on 9 and 10th of July 2016. Nowra C.C. Backs up at Bunnings

The Nowra club returned to Bunnings , to continue our fund raising activities for our project of the two new courts. As always, members worked as teams and did a mammoth effort.

At the time we showed images of the proposed courts and had a shaker tin close by which was successful. A big thank you to all involved Bob Williamson Publicity

Training at Nowra with State Director of Coaching Barb Piggott

On the 10th of February 2016, Barb Piggott travelled from Toronto, to hold a training session with Nowra and visiting players, in the techniques of Golf Croquet. The afternoon session was enjoyed by the 17 players and an afternoon tea. I am sure, that those who attended will show marked improvement in their games as a result of the training.

Nowra's Honorary Gardener - Len Muir

During April 2015, 82 year old Len Muir, retired ambulance driver, was invited by a member to come to Croquet as he was seeking a new way in life. After watching then playing a few games, he became a member of the club. During the next few months, having had experience in gardening, he noticed several bare areas around the club where some additional gardens could be established. When speaking to the then Club President, John Deeves, about tendering these areas he was told "Go for it Len" So it began that Len became the clubs " Honorary Club Gardener". After many hours of work, new gardens have been established and are beginning to flourish with the dedication, shown by Len. Lets also not forget, Len is also becoming a formidable opponent on the playing courts and just' not the garden' All the members enjoy and appreciate the work that Len is doing for the club.
