Geriatric Pairing downs the Youngsters

The pairing of Geof McDonald and John Levick from the National Park Club was given very little chance of winning the State title but win it they did.

There were nine pairings in the competition and as usual competition was fierce. There were some great battles but Geof and John came away with one loss only from eight games and that was to Rosie Graham and John Eddes.

Pete Landrebe and Nick Chapman were runners up with six wins. Had Geof and John lost their last game Pete and Nick would have won on a count back. It shows how close the competition was.

The only disappointment of the tournament was the market held by the Concordia club on the Sunday. It meant that we had children who were without parental supervision running up and down sidelines and at one stage were throwing croquet balls around on lawn 2. I only hope someone has good insurance.

A bar b q was held at the close of play on the Sunday and some 18 people remained to enjoy a convivial drink and a well cooked meal by chef John Eddes.

Our thanks to the various referees who helped out and to Jacky McDonald for managing the event.
