Taree Wild Fig Golf Croquet Carnival

The Taree Wild Fig Golf Croquet Carnival was held from Tuesday 2nd May to Friday 5th May.

The Carnival was sponsored by, the recently formed, MidCoast Council. Taree Croquet Club thank them for their support.

There were 38 players in the Carnival coming from 12 different Clubs. The Clubs are spread from Nowra, Wollongong and Young in the south to South West Rocks, Smithtown and Sawtell in the north.

A number of players were on return visits to Taree having played in previous Taree Carnivals, but for others, this was their first Carnival at Taree and, for a few, their first Carnival away from their home Club. All were warmly welcomed to Taree Croquet Club.

The Carnival followed last years format with half the competitors playing doubles on Tuesday and Wednesday and singles on Thursday and Friday, while the other half the competitors played their doubles and singles in the reverse order. Taree’s 3 courts were used continuously during the 4 days.

Some spectacular golf croquet was witnessed during the 4 days. Competitors played in the relaxed atmosphere and pleasant weather. The forecast rain stayed away and, on the first and last days, fine, warm, sunny Taree autumn weather prevailed. Competitors enjoyed the games, meeting and playing against people from other areas and the tea, coffee and nibbles between their games, provided by Taree Croquet Club members.

The Carnival Dinner was held at "Sailo’s Restaurant" in the Taree Aquatic Club on Wednesday evening. This event was enjoyed by the many who attended. The "Sailo’s" also provided a prize for the Carnival.

At the conclusion of the Carnival, a ‘Finger Food’ Buffet was well patronised, and was followed by the presentation of the prizes.

The final results were close. The difference in net points was crucial to the results in 5 of the 6 Blocks. Even the individuals game was required in one result.

Taree Croquet Club are again grateful to the referees for their time and assistance. Included here are members, competitors and especially the 5 people who travelled from Port Macquarie and Forster just to referee.

Sincere thanks to all who refereed and to the Taree members who assisted during the Carnival.

Taree Croquet Club hope players from a wide spread of Clubs will attend the Wild Fig Golf Croquet Carnival in May 2018.
