From the President

PRESIDENTS REPORT - COUNCIL MEETING 1st MARCH 2008

Tournament Managers’ Information
Since the last Council meeting I have been to Maitland, Ballina, Forster and Nowra Croquet Clubs. In each case representatives from clubs in the surrounding districts attended and all have been given a folder containing the relevant paperwork to assist in conducting competitions. Some of this is also available on the CNSW website. Thank you to those clubs for inviting me and organizing the other clubs.

Feasibility Committee
It was decided that a Feasibility Committee be convened to discuss and carry out the placement of a fourth lawn at Tempe. The committee will be John Hanscomb, John Eddes, Geof McDonald and Garry O’Dell

Handicaps
It has been decided that clubs will be asked to provide updates of Golf Croquet and Association handicaps twice each year. David Archer will be asked to put these on the website.

Clubs are directed to use Handicap Cards for all internal club singles championships for Association and Golf Croquet both open and handicap. Ladder Competitions and doubles will not be included. To use handicap cards games should be scheduled for at least 1 hour in Golf Croquet and 2 ¼ hours in Association, be played on the correct sized court and to the correct rules.

Summary of Events
As requested at the last Council Meeting this will be carried out by John Eddes and Max Hooper then sent to David for inclusion on the website.

Appreciation Certificate
You will have noted four certificates on display and the voting sheet nearby. Please make your chouice before you leave.

State Team Uniform
After a request from the state team ACA has been informed that the CNSW colours are white, sky blue and navy. Team members are permitted to wear the approved shirt and white or navy shorts or pants. Members of the state team have been requested that if they are playing doubles then they both wear the same colour. While I’m on about colour can I congratulate Jamberoo on their blue shirts. Maybe one of the ways we can counter the community’s perception that croquet is an old persons game is by moving away from white.

Grant Application
Yes we will get the grant but when is another matter – the latest is April. We can’t spend any money until the agreement is signed but some organisation is under way. In the December mail out we requested expressions of interest for making mallets suitable for school children. Four people have expressed an interest and they have been asked to have one mallet at the next executive meeting. Coaching/Referees Courses. The payment of accommodation and travel for coaches and referees will not be paid unless it has been organized through CNSW. The SDR and SDC will normally authorize such payments

2009 Australian Championships
An Organising Committee has been convened with Ken Edwards (Chairman), Mike Hughes, John Eddes, Alison Sharpe and Lorraine Le Blang. They have already held their first meeting and I look forward to their reports.

Sports Federation Awards
Our successful Eire Cup team was a finalist in the Team Of The Year award and Alison Sharpe and I attended the Awards Dinner. We didn’t win but were certainly in some illustrious company.

Golf Croquet Interstate Competition
ACA has decided that this year the competition will be 2 x 2 but each state will enter a team of 3 men and 3 women and all must take part.

Selections
A letter has been sent to the selectors requesting that in June they select a Golf Croquet team of 3 men and 3 women and 2 non travelling reserves. In addition they have been requested to select a State Team Squad of 6 men and 6 women and a Development Squad of 6 men and 6 women. The Association Croquet state team is to be selected prior to the Presentation lunch in December. Steve Jones (ACA National Coaching Consultant) has requested that members be nominated for the National Training Squad. The selectors have nominated Chloe Aberley, Alison Sharpe and Tim Murphy.

Yearbook
It has been noticed that some members who belong to two clubs have been given different ACA ID numbers. If this applies to you please contact John Hanscomb.

Newsletter
Betty Brown has decided not to continue with the Coaches Corner in the newsletter. Her contributions will be sadly missed and I wish to thank Betty for her assistance.

Toilets
A problem has occurred with the septic holding tank which has resulted in our toilets overflowing causing a health hazard. We have discovered that our pipes were damaged by workmen dealing with the new gas lines. After two trips by the plumbers this has been rectified but the holding tank still needs to be switched on and off manually until Marrickville Council fixes it. If you are involved with a competition please check with John Eddes. My sincere thanks to John for his assistance in this matter

ACA Encouragement Award
ACA has decided to introduce an Encouragement Award for new players. The executive have sent their nomination and this will be announced at our next Council meeting
