The New South Wales team was once again victorious in the Eire Cup competition held in Perth from 21st to 25th March . This is the third year in a row NSW has won, and the fourth time in six years. Congratulations to the team of Rosemary Graham (captain), Alison Sharpe, Claire Bassett, Charlotte Morgan, Stephen Richards (vice-captain), Peter Landrebe, Jim Nicholls and Tim Murphy, with reserves Ken Edwards and Pam Gentle.

The competition as always was very strong, and all NSW team members played well to score convincing wins against every other state. The scores for NSW were: against Tasmania 19 - 1, against South Australia 18 - 2, against Western Australia 13 - 7, against Queensland 18 - 2, and against Victoria 13 - 7.

Special mention should be made of Rosemary Graham, who won all her singles matches, and of Alison Sharpe, who backed up her win in the Australian Womens Open to win 9 of her 10 singles matches in the Eire Cup. Claire Bassett, and Jim Nicholls (playing in his first Eire Cup) also won 9 or their 10 singles matches.
