Introduction to Ricochet at Port Hacking Club

On Sunday July 31, 16 players (7 from Port Hacking Club and 9 from Sutherland Club) met for an Introduction to Ricochet workshop especially tailored for GC players. Special Presenters were Roberta Flint and Charles Britton from Marrickville Croquet Club.

It was a chilly morning, so everyone was happy to start the workshop in the clubhouse, where Charles explained the similarities and the differences between GC and RC. Then it was time to move to the lawns for an exercise that focussed on the "gift" opening. (see photo) Everyone warmed up again inside with some morning tea and discussion about special features of a Ricochet court and the "flow" of the game. Then it was back outside (where it was still overcast and cold) and groups of four players played a few turns of a doubles Ricochet game from balls specially placed to facilitate roquets and/or hoop running. During the closing indoors session of the workshop, the sun finally broke through the clouds.

Players had been invited to bring their lunch and play on into the afternoon. Most players took up this offer and, during a very pleasant sunny afternoon, enjoyed their first full game of Ricochet.

Regular Tuesday morning Ricochet playing sessions will start at PHCC on September 6. All interested players are welcome.

LAKE MACQUARIE TO GET NEW CROQUET CENTRE

WooHoo,

Lake Macquarie City Council on 23rd May 2016 adopted the Glendale Sec94 Contributions Plan for community facilities and included in the proposals is a top class 6 lawn Croquet Centre with an amenities block, fencing, drainage, watering system, lighting, parking and a large open area for picnics and gazebos.

A small group from both Toronto Croquet Club and Macquarie City Croquet Club were given the opportunity to view the concept plan, make comment and discuss the project. All were impressed with the proposal.

Funding is expected to be in the region of $2.5 million.

The land is located very close to Cockle Creek Railway Station and is serviced by regular bus routes. With on-site parking, there is easy access from the Freeway from Sydney and from both the north and west.

It is anticipated that filling of the site to final levels could take up to 18 months with an expected start of January 2017.

Croquet players from the Lake Macquarie area are excited. WooHoo.

Nowra Croquet Club hosts World Croquet Day

On Saturday, 7th May under perfect autumn weather, the club held its inaugural W.C.D. at their courts at Bomaderry. Over fifty members of the public, were shown how to play the game of golf croquet and well as mallet skills.

During the day, there was a plant sale, raffle and a sausage sizzle. Toward the end of the day, visitors were also entertained by NuKem a local ukelele group. Some of the visitors indicated their interest in becoming members.

As a result of the day, some $600.00 was raised for the proposed additional courts, which are required to meet the ongoing demand by the Shoalhaven Community to participate in the sport of croquet.

We played Association, Golf and Ricochet from 8 a.m. to 3.30 p.m. The Association players showed the golfers how to play their game.

We all enjoyed the celebration cake at morning tea time.

A great time was had by all. Especially Margaret Newberry who won the Toronto Workers' Club dinner voucher.
