Nowra enjoys Twilight Skills and Drills
Nowra Club is always encouraging members to improve their croquet game and what a better time, than in the cool of a twilight summers evening . A recent evening saw some twenty members enjoy skills and drills hosted by club members, Margaret Sawers and David Hanbidge. Club members are encouraged to try their hand at passing on skills and drills sessions to members. |

John joined Nowra Croquet club in September 2001 and began to coach new players and maintain the lawns through regular moving, spraying and placing permanent boundary lines for the safety of players. In 2007 he help roll the resurfaced lawn twice a day for a week with an old tennis court roller half filled with water...hard work
John was a member of the winning Gold Association pennant team in 2004
He was club captain, in 2007, president in 2008 and 2014
John was a driving force in the establishment of the present courts at Bomaderry
John has also helped our club over the years as being available referee for all forms of croquet tournaments . He also recruited other player from clubs for tournaments.

Ricochet Workshop Hits The Target
The ricochet workshop presented by Margaret-Rose Thompson, Nelson Bay Croquet Club, at Lismore on 18 November 2016 was a great success.
The workshop held by Northern Rivers Croquet Association was organised in response to the ongoing demand by players from member clubs to learn how to play ricochet. Members from most of the NRCA clubs – Alstonville, Ballina Casino and Lismore, and one member from the newly formed club at Iluka - were enthusiastic participants in the workshop. The workshop consisted of Margaret-Rose outlining the rules of the game and basic strategies to all the participants. The participants were then broken up into small groups so that they could put into practice on the lawns what they had learnt.
Participants ranged from players new to ricochet, to those who have been learning the rudiments, to more experienced players who have played club games and even some who have played in the NRCA Ricochet Annual Tournament. Lismore and Ballina have members who play ricochet regularly and who have competed in the NRCA Ricochet Tournament since its inception a few years ago.
Members from other clubs are keen to learn ricochet to broaden the scope and appeal of their clubs to current and prospective members. Several clubs that previously played AC no longer have members who are physically able to play AC but these members are keen to play ricochet. Other clubs have newer members who play GC but want to test themselves with the challenge that ricochet presents.
NRCA is confident that with the increasing interest in ricochet that we will be able to run a ricochet pennants competition in 2017.
The workshop capped off a productive and successful ricochet focussed few days with local players (Jean Hill, Mary Hughes, Julie O’Brien and Richard Hughes all from Ballina Croquet and Deborah Matten, Lismore Croquet Club) gaining their accreditation as ricochet referees.
All participants were impressed by Margret-Rose’s knowledge, wisdom and commitment. We appreciate the time and effort Margaret-Rose took to travel to our area and the time and patience she devoted to our players in conveying her knowledge and love of the game. Regional clubs really appreciate the effort and sacrifices of volunteers such as Margaret-Rose who contribute to the health of the game outside the metropolitan area.

Toronto Croquet Club hosted the Inaugural Gold Brooch Event on 29th, 30th and 31st August. 13 teams from Jamberoo, EDSACC, Toronto, Maitland, Taree and Port Macquarie competed and some magnificent croquet was played by all.
1st place went to Robyn Compton and John Pace (Maitland). 2nd place to Sandra Howchin and Pat Moroney (Jamberoo). Well done!

Nowra Croquet Club hosted the annual combined Probus Croquet Day at their courts at Bomaderry on Monday 22nd August 2016. The day was organised by the Nowra Probus Club with other visitors from the Shoalhaven mens and the Jervis Bay clubs. Thirty six probus players assisted by croquet club members, enjoyed the day of golf croquet and other mallet competitions whist other visitors enjoyed the club facilities. Although the weather was cold, it did not affect the enthusiasm of the players. A barbecue lunch was enjoyed by all those present.
